Why?
Avacodos are rich in monounsaturated fats, which have been shown to reduce blood cholesterol and heart disease risk. They are also a great source of anti-oxidants!
Usage:
Raw in salads, made into guacomole, or try them as a spread on sandwiches instead of mayo, try them mashed up in rice to add an extra flavor kick!
Selection:
If you are planning on eating the avocado the day you eat it, choose one that is soft when you press it. If you are planning on eating it in a few days, choose one that is very firm. It will ripen on your counter, or you can keep it in your fridge to delay ripening.
Avoid:
Avoid avocados that are squishy to the touch, or have brown spots
Care & Handling:
Wash the avocado before preparing, then remove the large seed inside and skin
